Hey andra, I'm bernadetta. We briefly chatted earlier in the publicquicknotes. I'm a mommy of a little boy who is a year and a half, and I'm 23 years old. Feel free to message me and chat if you like. I could use some new mommy friends. :)

Hi there! Welcome to the site.
I'm DG from Texas. I'm married and have a 9-year-old son. Hubby is totally blind, I'm functionally blind, and munchkin is sighted.
Again, welcome. It gets lively around here but we're all a pretty harmless bunch. lol

Nice to meet you all. Nice to know I'm not the only parent with a visual impairment out there. My fiancé (who is sited) tells me people stare at us all the time. For example, some lady nearly crashed her car staring at me helping him push our daughter's stroller while using my cane.

Yep there's lots of us out here. I'm the dad of an 18-year-old who just moved out on her own. It's a ride, whether you're blind, sighted or one-legged frog. More challenging than the visual or nonvisual things I have found are background differences and maybe value differences between the parents, especially where one has a very strong outlook on some things.

Post 8 by Meglet (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 07-Aug-2013 19:14:11

Yeah, I grew up with one-legged frog parents and it was quite the experience. However, it has really broadened my horizons and made me embrace differences. It's truly inspirational to be in the company of such inspiring individuals who don't let their one-legged frogginess get in the way. ;(
Sorry Leo, couldn't resist.
Oh and, welcome to the site! Most of us are really nice; stick around awhile.

Meglet, what I am gonna do noe having your sense of humor around!! I will become devistated and cry every day and turn into a one-legged frog/alien/human hybrid!

I wonder if my kids will favor one-legged fros? Aliens? or... oh, God, HUMANS!

ROFL!

Post 11 by CrazyMusician (If I don't post to your topic, it's cuz I don't give a rip about it!) on Wednesday, 07-Aug-2013 23:58:38

What? Dealing with the Dasher tail of quirkiness isn't enough? Seriously... though, you could corrupt our kids... though you'd have to get in line behind my dear husband, and my friends Ken and Chris... why is it that the strangest people you know are the best with kids on a temporary basis...

Could they be hybrids?

Kate

Aww thank you for the warm ewelcome everyone. I love my kids so much I must say. I can't imagine having an 18 year old, what's that like? I don't want my babies to grow up lol. I know they have to, soI'm enjoying them young to the fullest. I hope my disability helps my kids understand and accept differences in others.

Welcome to the site. I am a blind Dad of two youngsters, one 2.5 years old and one 6 months. I don't know many blind parents so I'd be up for sharing experiences if you'd like to chat or message me.

Question: How the hell do you brush a little munchkin's teeth without gagging said munchkin or being kicked to pieces?

I don't know how that works, as that was one thing the wife did, but she mainly instructed rather than doing it to her. So she would stand there and watch her do it and tell her. If mom wasn't around for that, I would just ask to see that she got everything, you know, got the back and rinsed and all.

Hi there.
I have and love kids. But I'll have to say growing up with a disabled parent doesn't necessarily make them more excepting of disabilities.
Enjoy them while they are small. Smile.

Because this is the club of parents with visual imparementhere is one more here.
I have a son who is 2 years old. I am blind and him and my wife are sighted.
I am portuguese and my wife is polish and yeah my son is both!
I think he is starting to understand that I am blind because he picks up things for me! That's sweet.Anyways it's interesting to share ideas and opinions about parenthood with visual imparements.
